Festool EXO 18-Basic ExoActive Exoskeleton

At a Glance: Active 18 V exoskeleton with up to 50 N / approx. 5 kg support force per arm for overhead and chest-height work

The Festool EXO 18-Basic ExoActive is a professional cordless exoskeleton designed to support the arms, shoulders and neck during demanding overhead and front-of-body work. Whether you are sanding ceilings, painting walls, installing panels, wallpapering, assembling components or working with hand tools for long periods, the EXO 18 helps take the strain out of repetitive raised-arm applications. Worn like a rucksack and powered by Festool's 18 V battery system, it provides active, adjustable support exactly where it is needed, allowing the user to work with more control, less fatigue and better focus throughout the job.

Active Support For Overhead Work

The ExoActive system provides targeted underarm support and can be adjusted to suit the working position. It is especially useful for trades where long periods of arm-raised work are part of the daily routine, helping to make tiring applications feel more manageable.

Product highlights

  • Active 18 V support: The powered system assists the arms during overhead and chest-height tasks, reducing the physical effort required during demanding work.
  • Up to 50 N support per arm: Provides up to approximately 5 kg of support per arm, giving noticeable relief when working above shoulder height.
  • Adjustable working areas: Choose between support from the waist up, chest height or overhead, depending on the application.
  • Five support settings: The level of assistance can be regulated quickly to match the task and the user's preference.
  • Comfortable rucksack-style fit: The exoskeleton is worn on the back and can be adjusted to the user's body size for a more secure, balanced fit.
  • Bluetooth connectivity: Compatible with the Festool App for operating data, additional settings and application-related information.
  • Washable textile parts: The textile and belt system can be removed and cleaned, making it practical for shared workshop or site use.
  • Festool 18 V System compatibility: Works with compatible Festool BP 18 Li battery packs of 3.1 Ah and higher.

Extra Information

  • The EXO 18-Basic is part of the Festool 18 V battery platform and requires a compatible Festool BP 18 Li battery pack.
  • The Basic version is supplied without a battery pack and charger unless otherwise stated in the product offer.
  • The support force can be adjusted to suit the work and the user, making it useful for different trades and working positions.
  • The exoskeleton is intended for vertical support work in front of the chest and overhead, not for horizontal load-carrying applications.
  • Operating temperature range is 0 °C to 40 °C.
  • The textile and belt system can be removed and washed separately, which is useful in busy professional environments.

Pro Tips

  • Set the exoskeleton correctly to your body size before starting work. A good fit makes the support feel more natural and helps prevent discomfort.
  • Start with a lower support setting and increase gradually until the assistance feels balanced and controlled.
  • Use the headrest for extended overhead work, especially when working on ceilings or high wall areas.
  • Make sure the lap strap carries the weight properly. The unit should feel supported on the hips, not hanging heavily from the shoulders.
  • Keep a charged compatible Festool 18 V battery ready for longer work sessions.
  • Clean or replace textile parts when shared between users to keep the system comfortable and hygienic.

How to Use

  • Before use, inspect the exoskeleton and make sure all removable parts are correctly fitted.
  • Set the back length, shoulder width and armrest position according to the user's body size.
  • Insert a compatible Festool 18 V battery pack until it clicks securely into place.
  • Put the exoskeleton on like a rucksack, without fully tightening the shoulder straps at first.
  • Fasten the lap strap and tighten the lap belts so that the weight is carried comfortably on the hips.
  • Lightly tighten the shoulder straps and position adjustment straps so the unit sits securely against the body.
  • Close the chest strap and place the arms into the armrests, securing the magnetic closures.
  • Switch the unit on at the control module and wait for the ready status indicator.
  • Select the required working area and gradually adjust the power assistance to suit the task.
  • Use pause mode when taking short breaks, and switch the exoskeleton off before removing it or putting it down.

Features

  • Active exoskeleton technology: Supports work-related arm movement and load handling in front of the chest and above head height.
  • Three predefined application areas: Set the support area for work from the waist up, from the chest up or overhead.
  • Variable power assistance: The assistance level can be adjusted gradually to suit the task and comfort level.
  • Underarm support: Vertical support force is applied through the armrests to reduce strain on the shoulder and neck muscles.
  • Headrest included: Two headrest options can be used for added comfort during overhead work.
  • Control module: Allows the user to switch the unit on or off, pause work and adjust assistance settings.
  • Status indicator: Provides feedback on operating status, battery status and fault conditions.
  • Removable textile system: Belt and textile components can be removed for cleaning or replacement.

Benefits

  • Reduced fatigue: Helps make tiring overhead work feel easier, allowing the user to work for longer with better concentration.
  • Improved comfort: Supports the shoulders and neck during repetitive raised-arm applications.
  • Better productivity: By reducing physical strain, users can stay focused on accuracy, finish quality and workflow.
  • Flexible application: Suitable for a wide range of work, from painting and drywall sanding to installation and manual assembly.
  • Quick adjustment: The support level and working area can be adapted quickly as the job changes.
  • Easy to wear: The rucksack-style design makes it practical to put on, adjust and remove on site.
  • Clean and shareable: Washable textile parts help keep the unit hygienic, especially when used by more than one person.

  • Overhead sanding and finishing work
  • Drywall and ceiling sanding applications
  • Painting walls and ceilings
