Festool PS STF D150x30 OR/5 Medium Orange Polishing Sponges

At a Glance: Five medium-grade 150 mm orange polishing sponges for preliminary polishing and removing paint imperfections.

Festool PS STF D150x30 OR/5 polishing sponges are professional medium-grade pads designed for preliminary polishing when repairing imperfections in painted surfaces. Their carefully selected orange foam provides the balanced cutting action required to correct visible paint flaws while preparing the surface for subsequent fine-polishing stages. Each pad measures 150 mm in diameter and 30 mm high, providing effective surface contact and comfortable control during machine polishing. The StickFix backing allows the sponge to be fitted quickly and securely to a compatible polishing pad, while Festool's colour-coded polishing system makes it easy to identify the correct pad for the required polishing stage. These premium sponges are ideally paired with Festool MPA 5010 polishing compound and are supplied in a convenient pack of five.

Medium polishing action for professional paint correction

The orange colour identifies the pad as Festool's medium polishing sponge. It provides the controlled cutting performance needed for preliminary polishing and the correction of paint imperfections before progressing to a finer finishing pad and polish.

Product highlights

  • Medium polishing grade: Provides balanced corrective action for preliminary polishing and paint-defect repair.
  • Professional paint results: High-quality foam supports consistent polishing across different painted surfaces.
  • Clear colour coding: The orange foam makes the medium polishing grade quick and easy to identify.
  • Optimised compound pairing: Ideally suited for use with Festool MPA 5010 polishing compound.
  • 150 mm working diameter: Covers larger surfaces efficiently while remaining easy to control.
  • 30 mm pad height: Provides cushioning and adaptability when working across surface contours.
  • Quick StickFix attachment: Enables fast, secure fitting and convenient pad changes.
  • Five-piece pack: Keeps replacement pads available for professional and multi-stage polishing work.

Extra Information

  • The official product designation is PS STF D150x30 OR/5, with a specified pad height of 30 mm.
  • Orange identifies this sponge as the medium-grade pad within the Festool polishing system.
  • Festool recommends pairing this polishing sponge with MPA 5010 polishing compound.
  • Use only with a compatible 150 mm StickFix polishing backing pad and a machine suitable for polishing.
  • Keep separate pads for different compounds to prevent contamination between corrective and finishing stages.
  • Clean the sponge regularly during use, as dried compound and removed material can reduce polishing performance.

Pro Tips

  • Apply a small amount of compound and spread it over the work area at low speed before increasing the machine speed.
  • Work in manageable sections using overlapping passes to produce an even, consistent correction.
  • Keep the pad flat against the surface and avoid concentrating pressure on its edge.
  • Do not overload the sponge with polishing compound, as excess product can reduce cutting performance and create unnecessary splatter.
  • Clean the pad frequently with an appropriate pad-cleaning method to prevent hardened residue from marking the finish.
  • Use a fresh sponge when changing to a different polishing compound or working on a different colour-sensitive surface.
  • Inspect the corrected area under bright, angled lighting before progressing to the fine-polishing stage.

How to Use

  • Clean and dry the surface thoroughly to remove dust, grit and loose contamination.
  • Inspect the polishing sponge and do not use it if the foam or StickFix backing is damaged.
  • Disconnect or switch off the polishing machine before attaching the sponge.
  • Centre the sponge carefully on a compatible 150 mm StickFix polishing backing pad.
  • Apply a small amount of suitable polishing compound, such as Festool MPA 5010, to the sponge or work surface.
  • Place the sponge against the surface and spread the compound over a small working section at low speed.
  • Polish using smooth, overlapping movements while keeping the sponge as flat as possible.
  • Use light to moderate pressure and avoid holding the rotating sponge in one position.
  • Wipe away compound residue with a clean microfibre cloth and inspect the finish under suitable lighting.
  • Clean the sponge after use and allow it to dry fully before storing it in a clean, dust-free location.

Features

  • Medium-density foam: Designed for preliminary polishing and the correction of paint imperfections.
  • Orange identification colour: Forms part of Festool's clearly organised colour-coded polishing system.
  • 150 mm diameter: Suitable for use with an appropriately sized Festool polishing backing pad.
  • 30 mm height: Provides useful cushioning and supports controlled polishing pressure.
  • StickFix fastening: Attaches quickly without separate adhesives or mechanical clamps.
  • Professional foam quality: Designed to produce dependable results on a range of painted finishes.
  • Five polishing sponges: Provides a practical supply for repeated polishing applications.

Benefits

  • Effective paint correction: The medium foam helps remove or reduce visible polishing marks and paint imperfections.
  • Controlled material removal: Its balanced polishing action supports correction without the aggression of a coarse pad.
  • Consistent polishing results: Premium foam distributes the polishing compound evenly across the working surface.
  • Faster pad selection: Orange colour coding makes the correct polishing grade immediately recognisable.
  • Reduced downtime: The StickFix system makes changing or replacing polishing pads quick and straightforward.
  • Efficient surface coverage: The 150 mm diameter makes it practical for vehicle panels, furniture and other larger surfaces.

Application

  • Preliminary polishing of painted surfaces.
  • Repairing and reducing paint imperfections.
  • Preparing surfaces for a finer polishing stage.
  • Polishing high-gloss paint systems.
  • Processing UV clear coats.
  • Polishing suitable mineral materials.
  • Polishing acrylic glass with the appropriate compound and process.
  • Automotive, furniture and decorative surface finishing.

Safety

  • Wear suitable eye and respiratory protection when machine polishing or when the compound instructions require it.
  • Read and follow the polishing machine, compound and workpiece manufacturer's instructions before use.
  • Disconnect the machine from its power source before fitting, removing or adjusting the polishing sponge.
  • Confirm that the sponge is centred and securely attached before starting the machine.
  • Do not use a torn, contaminated, excessively worn or poorly attached polishing sponge.
  • Use only within the speed range permitted for the polishing sponge, backing pad, compound and machine.
  • Secure smaller workpieces and keep loose clothing, jewellery and hair away from rotating components.
  • Avoid excessive speed, pressure or prolonged polishing in one position, as heat can damage the paint or work surface.
  • Test the complete polishing process on an inconspicuous area before treating the entire surface.
  • Follow the safety and disposal instructions supplied with the selected polishing compound.
