Festool RS-HK 160x80 Milling Set

At a Glance: 160mm notching and milling head with an 80mm working width and adjustable cutting depth from 0–38mm for professional rafter and timber construction work.

Transform a compatible Festool HK 132 or CSP 132 hand-held circular saw into a powerful portable milling machine with the Festool RS-HK 160x80 Milling Set. Developed specifically for demanding carpentry and timber construction, this professional attachment enables accurate notches, laps and birdsmouth joints to be produced directly in large timber components. The dynamic 160mm cutter head provides an impressive 80mm working width and an adjustable planing depth from 0–38mm at 0°, allowing substantial amounts of material to be removed efficiently while maintaining a high-quality finished surface. Three reversible carbide cutter blades work together with a dedicated pre-cutter to deliver smooth running, clean cutting edges and rapid working progress. Precision clamping rails make blade changes fast and straightforward, while the supplied fixed and movable protective covers form the required guarding system for safe use with the compatible machine.

Convert your carpentry circular saw into a versatile portable milling machine

The RS-HK 160x80 expands the capabilities of the Festool HK 132 and CSP 132 beyond conventional sawing. Once installed in place of the saw blade, the milling head allows large-format structural timber to be notched and rebated directly on the workpiece, reducing the need for heavy stationary machinery or repeated manual cutting.

Extra Information

  • The RS-HK 160x80 is designed for the Festool HK 132 and CSP 132 hand-held circular saws.
  • The milling head replaces the standard saw blade when the compatible machine is converted for notching and milling work.
  • The cutter provides an 80mm working width and an adjustable planing depth from 0–38mm at 0°.
  • Three reversible carbide cutter blades and one carbide pre-cutter are supplied with the set.
  • The cutting blades must be positioned correctly in the precision clamping rails and secured using the prescribed tools and tightening procedure.
  • The fixed and movable protective covers supplied with the set must be installed before the machine is operated.
  • The compatible circular saw is not included.
  • Installation, blade replacement and adjustment should be performed only by users familiar with the compatible machine and professional timber-cutting equipment.

Pro Tips

  • Mark the complete notch clearly on all accessible sides of the timber before beginning the milling operation.
  • Make a shallow test pass first to confirm the cutter position and working depth before removing the full amount of material.
  • When machining deep notches, use several controlled passes rather than attempting to remove the entire depth in one aggressive movement.
  • Support large rafters and beams securely so the workpiece cannot rock, twist or close around the cutter head.
  • Keep the carbide blades sharp and turn or replace them when increased feed force, tearing or an uneven surface becomes noticeable.
  • Clean resin deposits from the cutter head using only a suitable cleaner with a pH value between 4.5 and 8.
  • Check the position and secure clamping of all cutter blades before every working session.
  • Use effective dust and chip extraction where the machine and working environment permit it.

How to Use

  • Disconnect the compatible Festool circular saw completely from the mains power supply.
  • Set the machine to its minimum cutting depth according to the saw operating instructions.
  • Remove the fitted saw blade and riving knife using the prescribed machine procedure.
  • Remove the required section of the existing pendulum guard as described in the RS-HK operating manual.
  • Position the milling head so that its mounting holes engage correctly with the drive pins on the machine flange.
  • Install the clamping flange and mounting fastener, then secure the cutter head using the supplied tool-change pin and prescribed tightening tool.
  • Fit the movable cutter cover to the pendulum support and tighten its mounting fasteners securely.
  • Fit the fixed chip and protective cover to the stationary guard section and secure all fasteners.
  • Rotate the cutter head carefully by hand to confirm that it moves freely and does not contact the guards.
  • Set the required milling depth between 0 and 38mm.
  • Mark and securely support the workpiece before positioning the machine.
  • Start the machine and allow the cutter head to reach full operating speed before contacting the timber.
  • Guide the machine smoothly through the cut without forcing, twisting or applying excessive sideways pressure.
  • Allow the cutter head to stop completely before lifting the machine or making further adjustments.
  • Disconnect the machine from the power supply before cleaning, inspecting or changing the cutter blades.

Features

  • 160mm cutter head: Large-diameter milling head designed for substantial timber removal and professional carpentry applications.
  • 80mm planing width: Creates wide notches and laps without requiring numerous narrow cutting passes.
  • 0–38mm planing depth: Supports shallow surface machining as well as deeper structural notching at a 0° machine setting.
  • 30mm mounting bore: Provides the specified mounting interface for the compatible Festool machine.
  • Three reversible cutter blades: Carbide cutting edges provide durable performance and excellent cutting quality.
